What: The largest German festival for documentary film but also one of the most traditional and important ones on an international level. Founded in 1955 by the club of East German film technicians (“Club der Filmschaffenden der DDR”) it started as the first independent film festival in East Germany called the “1st All-German Leipzig Festival of Cultural and Documentary Films.” The annual international film festival was established by director Wolfgang Kernicke in 1960.
