Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion continues rank high in Amazon and New York Times nonfiction best seller lists. A companion to the book, the two part documentary program The Root of All Evil? was written and narrated by Dawkins for Channel 4 in the UK. The film has not been shown in the US, but is available on Google video.

Dawkin’s rhetoric is almost as simple and one dimensional as the religious rhetoric he’s so ardently opposed to. Dawkins would prefer we were all scientists — indoctrinated with science. He replaces a religion of god with a religion of science. Science is his god and he’s just as much a fundamentalist as the people he criticizes — thus exposing us to the same dangers he want us to fear. Listening to a scientist educate me about theology makes about as much sense as having a theologian educate me about science.
