The 2001 Pennsylvania Film Festival announces a competition for
documentaries on topics of contemporary social interest. The Festival desires to
encourage and draw attention to alternative voices in documentary filmmaking. The
competition offers the Black Diamond Award, cash prizes, and screening during the
Festival. Films will be judged both for their social significance and artistic
merit. The 2001 Festival will be held in historic Scranton, Pennsylvania from September 12
through September 16.
There are no restrictions on subject matter, but the Festival requests that films be no
more than 200 minutes in length and completed after January 1, 2000. Films must be
in English or have English sub-titles. Films should be submitted on VHS cassette for
judging. Selected films will be accepted in 16mm, 35mm, Beta SP and Digital Beta

To encourage early submission, the application fee will be reduced to $35 for
submissions postmarked on or before June 6.
